Geographically, the city is surrounded by Aravali Mountains. It is situated near the Thar Desert. Pushkar, which is known from Brahma Temple, is located near Ajmer, at about 11 km.

The region experiences hot summers and chilling winters. A lake called Anasagar is located in the city. It is a manmade lake.
