Mahasamund city is a municipal town in the district of the same name in Chhattisgarh state of India. It is located in the central eastern part of the Chhattisgarh state at an elevation of 1059 feet. Raigarh and Raipur districts of Chhattisgarh and Naupara and Bargarh districts of Orissa are the neighbors of Mahasamund. Mining can become a major economic activity in Mahasamund because some regions in the districts have shown presence of Granite Rocks, whereas other places show the presence of Sandstone, Neo Granite, Quartzite, and Dolerite type of rocks.
