Lepakshi is a small village in Anantapur district of the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. Lepakshi is historical and archeological significant place. It houses three important temples dedicated to three Hindu Gods - Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Virabhadra. The temple of Virabhadra is famous temple in Lepakshi. The temple is built by two brothers namely Virupanna and Virana. It has a beautiful structure and is built in Vijayanagar architecture style. It is good place to visit for many people who are interested in ancient architecture. Nandi bull is another attraction in Lepakshi. The Nandi bull is carved out of a single granite stone. The place is famous for many mural paintings. It also houses many ancient inscriptions in Kannada Language. Many of the inscriptions are many centuries old. Kurma Saila is tortoise-shaped hill located near Lepakshi. The hill houses temples of Raghunatha, Srirama, Papanatheswara and Durga. These temples have beautiful sculptures and carvings made on their walls. On the walls of the temples there is inscription and carvings which depicts the events and incidences from Mahabharata and Ramayana. On the roof there are many beautiful paintings. These paintings are made of ancient natural colors. Another interesting spot in the temple is ?Eyes of Viroopaakshanna. It is a wall in the temple which has marks of blood. It is said that king had some misunderstanding about the structure of temple and he then gave order to make builder of the temple blind. The builder heard that and took out his own eyes and threw them on the wall. Marks of blood on that particular wall can still be seen clearly. Lepakshi is situated on Bangalore- Hyderabad highway and well linked by state run buses and other private vehicle to Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and other cities and towns of the state. Hindupur railway station is closest railway station to Lepakshi. The railway station is well connected to other many cities and towns of the state and the country. Bangalore Airport is nearest airport to it. it just 100km away from Lepakshi and well connected by domestic and international flights as well to major cities of India and other countries.
