Khatu is an important religious place 80 Kms. From Jaipur in Rajasthan, India. The place is famous for its temple of Khatu Shyamji. Khatu Shyam was the grandson of Bhima and son of Ghatotkack and Kamkantkata Mata. He had received blessings from lord Krishna that he will be known by Krishna’s own name in Kaluga and would be revered by people of Kaluga, the present Yug. Chanting of his name would grant the wishes of the devotees and remove the troubles if they worship with a clean heart. He was earlier known as Barabarik, he was a good warrior from his childhood, Lord Shiva had pleasingly offered him three flawless arrows and Agni dev gave him bow which was blessed as undefeatable in all worlds. Wishing to support the weaker side Barbarika started for the battlefield of Kurukshetra to participate in Mahabharata war. Lord Krishna after ascertaining the in fallacy of his arrows stopped his participation in Mahabharata by asking his head as a mandatory sacrifice for the war. Barabarika offered his head and thus gained the boon to be revered in Kaluga. Shyam Kund in Khatu is the place where the head of Barabarik was discovered after ages and temple built by Roop Singh Chauhan and his wife Narmada Kanwar the ruler of the state then in 1027 AD. Since then Khatu Shyam is worshiped by the people and it has become the family deity of many houses. The temple of Khatu Shyamji is very beautifully made in marble and decorative tiles. The main shutters are decorated with silver coverings; there is a beautiful land scaped garden in front of the temple. The temple complex now has many other temples in it. Khatu Shyam can be reached directly by bus from many cities of Rajasthan.
