Kakkabe is known for Padi Igguthappa temple. Igguthappa is the most revered deity of the Coorgi people. It is a popular destination for the Devotees of Igguthappa. Kakkabe is just 38 km drive from Madikeri ?the headquarters of Coorg. Kakkabe has been the largest producer of honey in the region. It is a quiet, picturesque village near Virajpet. Cardamom, and Coffee are grown here and one can get the rarest variety of Orchids here. Kakkabe can be reached via Mangalore by air. Mangalore is the nearest airport and Mysore is the nearest railway station. However, Kakkabe is well connected by road. You can go via Madikeri, or via Virajpet (21 km). Places to see ? Igguthappa Temple: This is an ancient temple of Coorg built by the local ruler (Lingarajendra) in the 18th century. A festival to be held in every March will witness a large number of devotees. The devotees come here to perform the ?Tula Bhara? ritual. ? Nalnad Palace: Once this palace belonged to the royalty of the Coorg built around the 17th and the 18th century by Dodda Viraraja. It served as a resting place for the royalty during their hunting sessions. The palace stands as a monument witnessing the royal heritage. Beautiful carvings, paintings, murals, courtyard and low roof are the special features of the palace. The palace is situated in the Thadiyendmol hills range. ? Thadiyendmol Hill: This is considered to be the highest peak of Coorg at an altitude of 5, 730 ft above the sea level. It is best suited for adventure trekking. Make the Palace Estate situated at the base as your starting point for trekking. It is the second highest peak of Karnataka. ? Karada: This place hosts ancestral home stay for the visitors.
