Aizawl, Mizoram Travel Guide

Aizawl is the state capital of Mizoram. Mizoram is one among the seven states of the North Eastern region of India sharing borders with Bangladesh and Burma (Myanmar). Aizawl is located near the tropic of cancer which runs through the State of Mizoram. It is situated around 4000 feet above the sea level with a beautiful landscape. The city was made as a base for the British battalion in 1890 and in the later periods the city saw tribal uprisings. The Mizo tribes had made frequent attempts to resist the British force, but were shunned by the British army. Later, in March 1966 the Mizo (speaking a kind of Tibeto- Burman language) National Front succeeded in acquiring an independent status from the clutches of the Assam Force. It is a political and commercial center of Mizoram. Pollution free roads, enchanting river valley, panoramic view of lush green hills, soothing music (guitar) and the hand woven clothes are the main attractions of Aizawl. Majority of the population in Aizawl (all over Mizoram it is same) are Christians. They are soft spoken and friendly.
